CHABEUF (Henri).
Dijon monuments et souvenirs.
Dijon : L. Damidot, 1894. - 2 volumes in-folio, 371 x 280: (4 ff.) 1 plan, 230 pp., 53 plates; (2 ff.), pp. (231) - 442, 46 plates. Dark brown morocco, triple gilt fillet framing the boards, gilt mosaic Dijon coat of arms in an oval gilt frame bordered with flowers in the center of the first board, ornate ribbed spine, gilt roulette framing the inside, burgundy long-grain morocco linings adorned with a frame of two gilt fillets with gilt mosaic Dijon and Burgundy coat of arms in the corners, gilt mosaic EL numeral in the center of the first lining, and a rosette of gilded foliage surrounding a red morocco pastille adorned with a gilded vine leaf and bunch of grapes in the center of the second lining, moiré silk endpapers featuring marbled decoration in violet tones, tributes in gilded letters on the first endpaper of the first volume, gilded head, untrimmed, green imitation leather case, lined with velvet and beige silk, decorated with a white cord framing, clasps (Marchet et Roux).

First edition of this monumental work by lawyer and art historian Henri Chabeuf (1835-1925), which was awarded the Prix Thérouanne by the Académie française. The title given to this book sufficiently indicates that our aim was not to make a methodical and complete history, but to trace the material and moral picture of Dijon through the ages, attaching to each stone the memory of the men who succeeded one another where we live, and left something of themselves in the monuments that time and generations have respected or destroyed" (Foreword).

L'illustration comprend 140 photogravures dont 100 hors texte.

Precious copy, one of 10 on Hollande paper (n° 10) numbered and signed by the publisher at the justification.
