Charles Maurice de TALLEYRAND (1754-1838). P.S., 15 prairial VII (June 3, 1799); 1 1/2 pages in-4, revenue stamp and ink stamp. Minister of Foreign Relations, he certifies "in the absence of the Minister of Marine and Colonies" that the signatures of two former administrative officers at Isle de France (Mauritius) and Isle de la Réunion are genuine. These officers claim to have seen an attestation from Nabab Ayder-Ali-Khan, father of Tipoo-Sultan, in favor of Cen Chaussée, captain of his cavalry, which attestation was taken away from him: "the factious and leaders of Isle de France employ, like all their kind, all means to harm the good and true republicans they hate"... Attached is another P.S., printed circular with handwritten corrections and additions, "Modèle des autorisations circulaires", signed by Talleyrand, an VI.
