DREYFUS case. Jules QUESNAY DE BEAUREPAIRE (1834-1923), magistrate, antidreyfusard. Autograph manuscript signed, Et la Patrie?; 4pages small in-4 (cut out by the printer and pasted back together.
Violent article against Dreyfus and the Dreyfusards. "After nine days of fraudulent publication of the case documents, we have reached a turning point, and all those who put the spirit of the fatherland above the spirit of party can see what the Dreyfusist plan is. Justice is an empty word for this faction, and the trial is just a pretext. As long as it found judges to its liking, the judiciary was dear to it; when, as a result of the relinquishment of jurisdiction, forty judges of integrity took the case in hand, the faction had only insults for them. They intended to oppose the dreaded ruling with the biased investigation of the Chambre Criminelle in order to mislead public opinion once again, and it was for this reason that the publication was undertaken. The result did not live up to its expectations; it succeeded only in arousing public disapproval & in bringing Dreyfus's guilt to light [...] At this very moment, a certain newspaper is negotiating with a young lady to buy the Esterhazy papers, or so-called Esterhazy papers, in order to refresh the faded story of the Bordereau's authorship. When we realize that this whole charade is worn out to the bone, we'll invent something else, because we don't want to face the Arrêt [...] All measures are taken all the better because the gold of international Jewry is flowing freely into all coffers. [...] The foreign press, sponsored or owned by Jews, is ardently leading the cause in favor of the anti-French cause [...]. Well, I ask in true despair: will the country suffer a handful of Hebrews and jumpers to reduce it to this extremity? Will the army allow its sword to be broken by these impure hands?"...
