Henri BERTRAND (1773-1844) general, Napoleon's loyal companion on Elba and St. Helena. L.A. (minute), [Lalœuf early November 1827, to Jacques Laffitte], on the verso of the address page of a L.S. from banker Jacques Laffitte addressed to him on October 27, 1827; 1 and 1 pages in-4, address. "Draft of a letter that was not sent", concerning Napoleon's will, in reply to Jacques Laffitte who was in charge of payments for the Emperor's estate. Laffitte, who warned him "that only frs 100,000 remained to be paid out of the sum due. Among those still unpaid are the father and mother of Gal Chartran, whose representative has left Paris". Bertrand thanks him for "having Gal Chartran's father and mother paid in Carcassonne", but contests the use of a mandate issued by Montholon which "cannot validate a payment and which would not conform to the appended statements". He has no news from Montholon, but having learned of his return from England, he has written to him "concerning Gal Chartran's parents and the 100,000f. still to be paid"...
