Joseph von HAMMER-PURGSTALL (1774-1856) Austrian orientalist and diplomat. L.A.S., Vienna, January 8, 1815, to Orientalist Amable Jourdain in Paris; 2pages in-4, addressed with Oriental red wax seal. Exchange between the two orientalists, notably on the Thousand and One Nights. Schmid, 1809-1818; 6 vols.], where I shall make all the more use of it as it contains a fine expression of the liberality of your way of thinking [...] As for the Arabic texts of Messoudi and the Persian of Tabari, I have not received the letter in which you ask me for them. I presume you mean the passages relating to the Samanids, but I possess neither [...], I have only a few pieces translated by extract among my papers. Or is it the passage from 1001 Nuits in Messoudi that you mean? I'm told that in the Paris papers there's an announcement of a complete edition of Les 1001 nuits"...
