LITERARY DUELS. 3 documents concerning duels provoked by the poet Maxime FORMONT (1864-1940), May-July 1897; 2pages in-8 and 1page in-fol. Minutes of the incident between Maxime Formont, then editor of Gil Blas, and Adolphe Possien (1861-1906), editor of Le Jour. It is decided that the weapon will be a pistol with two bullets (The altercation is possibly linked to the Dreyfus Affair, as Possien had conducted an independent investigation that seriously questioned Captain Dreyfus's guilt). Paris, May 17, 1897. The document is signed by the 4 witnesses: Ubald Lacaze and Charles Bardin for Formont, and Cellarius and Eugène Héros for Possien. - Minutes of the encounter, "without result", signed by the 4 witnesses, Villebon, May 18, 1897. Other minutes of a duel claimed by Maxime Formont from Albert Soulacroix, following an article deemed defamatory; but one of the protagonists having acknowledged an error, the "reparation by arms" is considered null and void. Paris, July 24, 1897. Document signed by the 4 witnesses: Jules Guérin and Charles Hiaudeau for Formont, and Davin de Chmapclos and Louis Perrée for Soulacroix.
