Ferdinand ALQUIÉ (1906-1985). 5 L.A.S., Caen and Montpellier 1941 and s.d., to Maurice Sachs; 6pages in-4. Curious correspondence from the philosopher to Maurice Sachs. April 9, 1941. Continuation of a conversation on virtue, with quotations from Hegel... - They missed each other at the Vouillemont bar. He returns to Caen: "It's cold, especially in my new room. I bought a robe to work in. I'm back with my students, my copies, my preparations, my lessons. My discomforts"... - He recalls Sachs' hasty departure, "followed by a thousand strange signs. A network, which was undoubtedly suspended in the air, and which was undoubtedly intended for you, fell upon me. I mean a network of absurd little stories and slanders, which have irritated me greatly these last few days. And a few women have approached me. I haven't used any of them yet". He hopes to see him in Paris... - He read his Sabbat before leaving Caen and left the manuscript at the hotel; he especially liked the passage on Max Jacob: "I really believe that you excel at painting people, and therefore that you are above all a novelist"... - Montpellier. "The bad weather in Normandy followed me to Montpellier". He regrets not having seen Sachs again... Attached is a L.A.S. from Jean Wahl to M. Sachs, Lyon June 3 [1939?] (1 p. in-8).
