Karol von MIKULI (1821-1897) Polish pianist and composer, pupil of Chopin. L.A.S., Lemberg September 28, 1867, [to Eduard Hanslick]; 2pages in-4; in German.
Rare letter to the famous music critic Hanslick.
He asks him to accept the dedication of his piano compositions. If his request seems to betray an immodest self-confidence, only the memory of their friendly meeting in Marienbad helped him overcome his apprehensions in formulating his request ("nur die Erinnerung an Ihre liebenswürdige u. freundliche Begegnung in Marienbad mich über die gerechten und tief gefühlten Bedenken hinüber geholfen hat")... He knows he has neither "G-moll, C-moll Symfonie" [like Mozart and Beethoven], nor "B-dur Trio" [Schubert], nor "E-moll Concert" [Chopin concerto] in his luggage, but this dedication would be recognition of the effort Hanslick was kind enough to make to help him make his compositions known: "Dankbarkeit für die mich in so hohem Grade auszeichnende Mühe die Sie so gütig waren vor einigen Jahren sich zu geben, um früheren Compositionen den Weg in die Öffentlichkeit zu bahnen"....
A sheet of music (oblong in-4) with autograph title signed "Andante con variazioni, pour le Piano à 4 mains par Ch. Mikuli", and on the verso, by a copyist, the 2nd piano part from the beginning of the work.
