[Claude DEBUSSY]. COLETTE (1873-1954). Autograph copy of a letter from Debussy to Willy, October 10, 1895; 1 1/2 pages in-4 on vert d'eau paper. Colette's copy of a letter to her husband Willy about the Prélude à l'après-midi d'un faune, for publication in the Livre d'or des deux monuments de Claude Debussy (1932, falsely dated, as here, 1896). "Perhaps this is what remained of the dream at the bottom of the Faune's flute? more precisely, this is the general impression of the Poëme, for to follow it more closely, the music would run out of steam like a carriage horse competing for the Grand Prix with a thoroughbred. But [...] it does follow the upward movement of the Poëme, and it is the setting already so wonderfully described in the text, with the added humanity of thirty-two violinists up too early!
