Large covered copper-alloy incense burner, Vietnam, 19th century The rectangular body is decorated with four sacred animals: dragon, kirin, turtle and phoenix. They represent the four cardinal points and symbolize balance and spirituality. It rests on four arched feet decorated with archaic motifs and has two large handles. The lid is decorated with a geometric frieze and a sapèque-shaped opening on each side, then topped by a handle in the shape of a reclining elephant decorated with leiwen friezes. It stands on a four-legged base decorated with friezes similar to those above. Height : 65 cm
