Lacquered bamboo and mother-of-pearl snuffbox, Japan, 1850-1930 Rounded and flattened in shape, each side embellished with a two-tone mother-of-pearl medallion with finely carved decoration of a rider in front of a pavilion on one side, and a lakeside landscape with two men conversing under the roof of a pavilion on the other. The shoulders are adorned with a demon mask on a background carved with swastika. The neck and foot are flared. Green jadeite stopper. Height: 6.5 cm Cracks in the bamboo.
