Amethyst snuffbox, China, 1760-1850 Rectangular with rounded shoulders, each carved with a Buddhist lion's head and a ring. The amethyst is translucent, with inclusions creating a natural "seafoam" decoration. Well hollowed out, it stands on an oval foot. Lapis lazuli stopper.
