Large glass goblet. The cup engraved with a three-masted ship supported by a Fÿen motto on one side. On the other side, a cartouche engraved JSG and underlined by a Prost inscription. Dated 1743. It seems that the initials JSG correspond to the Prost of the Middelfart religious district (the galleon is the emblem of this small port). A Provst (current spelling) is a bishop's deputy, episcopal vicar, who oversees several parishes. Today, the Provsti of Middelfart covers 21 parishes. It is part of the bishopric of Fyn (Fÿen or Fyn, the island of Fionie, is one of Denmark's three main islands).
Denmark or probably Sweden, mid-18th century.
