JACQUE SAGAN (1927-2004) IN VALLAURIS Bird, circa 1958 Zoomorphic vase. Polychrome enameled ceramic proof. Signed J. SAGAN Vallauris on the reverse. Height: 21.5cm - Length: 21cm Bibliography and related works: Anne Lajoix - L'Âge d'or de Vallauris - Les Éditions de l'Amateur, Paris, 1995. Works to be compared with our vase shown in photographs taken at the artist's booth at the 1958 Vallauris exhibition. Jacques Sagan began his career as a music hall performer in Paris, and didn't devote himself to ceramics until 1952, when he moved to Vallauris. It was here that he began producing lampshades, before moving on to pottery pieces, marked by influences dating back to Antiquity and African traditions. This mix of references gives his work a certain originality, marked by bold, vivid colors and geometric lines - very much in tune with the times.
