JEAN LINARD (1931-2010) Untitled, 1981 Large hanging dish. Ceramic proof. Signed and dated LINARD (19)81 on the obverse. Length: 56cm Jean Linard studied engraving at the École Estienne in Paris from 1945 to 1949. In 1959, his fascination with ceramics led him to settle in La Borne, where he worked as a potter with ceramist Anne Kjærsgaard (1933-1990), who became his wife in 1964. His work is characterized by a wide variety of materials and forms. He created pieces with a structure often enriched by juxtapositions of different materials and a subtle interplay of different glazes and colors. A colorful character, like his work. Linard was a potter, sculptor, painter and builder with a very singular universe akin to Art Brut - his Cathedral at Neuvy-Deux-Clochers in the Cher region, which he built over several decades, is the most eloquent testimony to this.
