Our work reproduced on pages 6 and 213. Celebrated as one of the great French figures of the twentieth-century ceramic revival, Claire Debril stands out for her resolutely sculptural approach to clay, developed through the colombin assemblage technique, to which she devoted herself exclusively. Early on, she developed a particular sensitivity to the relationship between full and empty, masses and hollows, which has left a lasting mark on her work. It was in the studio of her husband Bernard Soleil (1933-2025) that she was introduced to ceramics and began producing utilitarian pieces. After their separation in 1970, she moved to Vincennes where, from 1972 onwards, she asserted a personal language through her works, which she worked with her fingertips. Her pieces, both utilitarian and artistic, are distinguished by their curved volumes, matt surfaces and the depth of color of the glazes - mainly red, black and white. Driven by a quest for chromatic harmony and plastic rigor, his sober, sculptural work has attracted the attention of major collectors and has been widely exhibited. His ceramics are now housed in major institutions, including the Musée national de Céramique de Sèvres, the Musée des Arts décoratifs in Paris and the Musée Ariana in Geneva.
