SCHMIED (François-Louis) - ESCHYLE, Prométhée enchaîné, Paris: Société des Médecins Bibliophiles, 1941. - In-4, 330 x 257: (2 blank ff.), 107 pp. (4 last blank ff.), illustrated cover. Edition of "Prométhée enchaîné" in Paul Mazon's translation, illustrated with 39 woodcuts by François-Louis SCHMIED (1873-1941), engraved by his son Théo. The volume bears the mark of the Société des Médecins Bibliophiles at the head, with 17 full-page figures, 20 illustrating the text, and an ornament on page 111. This was the last work by François-Louis Schmied, who died on January 19, 1941. The edition was printed in the spring of that year, in a limited edition of 150 copies on Arches wove paper. This copy bears the number 101, although the justification indicates that only the first 100 were numbered in Arabic numerals. It was specially printed for Dr. C. Lepoutre. This copy is enriched, in a publisher's cardboard folder, with ONE ORIGINAL GOUACHE signed by François-Louis Schmied for the illustration on page 60, as well as TWO RARE SUITES OF THE ILLUSTRATIONS ON JAPAN PAPER: one in color, signed by Théo Schmied on the first engraving, and the other in black, unsigned. Some proofs are on japon nacré. A very well preserved copy. Provenance: Dr. C. Lepoutre, with ex-libris. Lepoutre, with bookplate and mention in the justification.
