VAVON (Antoine): The trout, its habits and the art of fishing. Étampes: Maurice Dormann et Cerf, 1927. -In-4, paperback, lined cover. 650 copies of the first edition of what is considered the finest book ever published on trout fishing. In it, the author studies trout (classification, anatomy, habitats, instinct, etc.) and how to fish for them (baits, influence of the sea).In the absence of other qualities, my book will, I believe, be original in that the practice of fishing will be destroyed by the very habits of the fish. This method at least has the advantage of giving a reasoned theory of fishing. Moreover, it obliges the angler to seek, constantly, the explanation of the facts that he observes, and it is a gymnastics from which he may fail to derive the greatest benefits" (foreword). The edition is illustrated with numerous black compositions in the text and on full page by Cousyn and Clérin, as well as 11 superb color plates, under captioned serpents, by Clérin, Daumain and Faddegon. Copy largely uncropped, a small light stain on the cover. Scattered foxing, rare and discreet traces of wetness on the edges of a few leaves, not serious.
