- Second edition, after the one published in 1815, of this work on Italian architecture, particularly that of Tuscany. It was written by the neo-classical architect Auguste-Henri-Victor Grandjean de Montigny (1776-1850) and the architect Auguste-Pierre Famin (1776-1859). Encouraged by the support of several renowned architects, the authors published a work comprising 109 line-engraved plates, spread over eighteen issues, accompanied by an explanatory text. The text presents the location of the monuments, their date of construction, their special features and the names of the artists responsible. At the end of the textual part, they have included a chronological table of the artists, with cross-references to the plates where their works are depicted. In addition to the principal buildings of Florence and Tuscany, the frontispiece plates of each issue present a selection of monuments of art, both antique and modern, from the region's principal museums and churches. A copy in contemporary binding, complete with all 109 plates. Restoration to binding, tear to head cover. Scattered foxing, light wetness throughout.
