First edition of the French translation by Auguste-Jean-Baptiste Defauconpret (1767-1843) of the account of Captain John Ross's first expedition to the Arctic polar seas. This translation is based on the Captain's own account, as well as on the journal published by an officer aboard the Alexandre, Captain Sabine's report, and the journal of another officer. The illustration consists of a frontispiece, a plate and a "map of the boreal polar regions, where is traced the Route of the Vaisseau l'Isabelle, in her Voyage of Discovery in 1818". A good copy in a 19th-century binding, but later than the publication. Minor rubbing to the nerves.
