The first follows the assassination of the Duc de Guise in December 1588. The letter is dated Orléans, February 5, 1589. The second pamphlet is the harangue given by the Duc de Mayenne to the captains and soldiers of his army on September 9, 1589, prior to the battle of Arques, which took place from September 15 to 29 against Henri IV's royal troops, and which saw the Duc's defeat.
