LIGER (Louis). La Connoissance parfaite des chevaux, contenant la manière de les gouverner, nourrir & entretenir en bon corps, & de les conserver en santé dans les voyages. Paris : Veuve Pierre Ribou, 1730 - In-8, brown calf, ornate ribbed spine, red speckled edges (period binding). "Mennessier de La Lance, II, p. 109. Second edition, identical to the first published in 1712, of this exhaustive work devoted to the description, breeding, care and training of horses. It was published by agronomist Louis Liger, who drew on the writings of the best authors in the field, as well as on the handwritten memoirs of Delcampe, equerry of the King's 17th-century Grande Écurie. The illustration includes a frontispiece and seven plates, five of which are devoted to the "Art of Riding". Mennessier de La Lance, who lists four in this section, specifies that these plates are reduced reproductions of those present in Pluvinel's "Instruction du Roi" (1625), the draftsman having, however, dressed the riders in the fashion of the early 18th century. A good copy, the binding very carefully restored. A few scattered brown spots.
