"This interesting report gives a detailed account of the pressure exerted by the government on the Caisse d'Escompte in 1788-1789, so that it would have ever more funds at its disposal, against the advice of the directors and against its statutes. Although unsigned, the report was made during Lavoisier's presidency, and he is probably responsible for it" (Duveen, "A Bibliography of Lavoisier", no. 251). A very fine copy bound by Claude Honnelaître, complete with the two folding leaves at the end, comprising two tables ("Situation de la caisse d'escompte, Pendant le mois d'Août 1788" and "Du 26 Novembre 1789"), and the "État, par mois, Des sommes payées en espèces, contre Billets de Caisse seulement, depuis le mois d'Août 1788, jusqu'au 25 Novembre 1789". Spine very slightly lightened.
