JOBLOT (Louis). Paris : Briasson, 1754-1755. - 2 volumes in one in-4, grained tan calf, spine ribbed and decorated, red edges (period binding). "Partly original posthumous edition, one section of which is based on the 1718 edition published under the title "Description et usages de plusieurs microscopes", while another is based on the author's manuscript. Louis Joblot (1645-1723) was a scientist specializing in microscopy, renowned for having manufactured simple and compound microscopes with up to four lenses in Paris. Although he was preceded in this field by Antoni van Leeuwenhoek (1632-1723) and Robert Hooke (1635-1703), he remains the first to have examined and drawn living microorganisms, which he reproduced in this work. The edition is decorated with a copper-engraved headband, reproduced four times, illustrating a physics cabinet filled with observational instruments, already present in the 1718 edition. It also includes 53 folding plates depicting the instruments and various observations. A good copy bound in one volume at the time. Some wear and tear. Pages 16 to 20 of the table of contents have been bound in at the head of the second part, before page 3. In addition, there is a hole and a worm gallery in the last few leaves, as well as in the inner margin of the 24 plates of the second volume."
