DUHAMEL DU MONCEAU (Henri-Louis) Traité de la conservation des grains, et en particulier du froment, Paris: Hippolyte-Louis Guerin, Louis-François Delatour, 1753. - In-12, marbled calf, ornate spine, speckled edges (period binding). First edition of Duhamel du Monceau's treatise, written after the great famine of 1752. The author seeks to solve the problem of conserving cereal crops, pointing out that poorly conserved grain can have serious economic consequences, such as price rises in times of poor harvests or price falls when production is good. Duhamel calls for the mobilization of towns, religious communities, hospitals, landowners, ploughmen and heads of households to store and preserve wheat. His work proposes solutions for building warehouses and preserving grain from humidity and parasites. The edition is illustrated with 12 fold-out plates: rural buildings, machines, chimneys, blowers, granaries, etc. A fine, well-preserved copy in contemporary binding.
