BOÈCE. Philosophical Consolation. New translation. Avec la vie de l'auteur, des remarques historiques, et critiques, et une dédicace massonnique. The Hague: Pierre de Hondt, 1744. - 2 volumes in-12, olive morocco, triple gilt fillet framing the boards, with gilt fleuron at the corners, ornate smooth spine, inner gilt roulette, gilt edges (contemporary binding). Freemasonic edition of this philosophical work by the Italian poet and philosopher Boethius (480?-524), in the French translation by the writer Joseph Du Fresne de Francheville (1704-1781). This is the first time the work has been published in this translation. There are two issues: one in Berlin, with Brother Roblau, and the other, as here, with Pierre de Hondt in The Hague. Both editions are identical, with the exception of the titles, of course, and the presence of Pierre de Hondt's catalog in the copies bearing his name. A fine and rare copy in contemporary morocco, in the style of Derome le jeune. Spines faded. Some brown spots.
