A superb old fragment of an equestrian bust with horse's head, which, although incomplete, masterfully illustrates one of the rarest and most prestigious bodies of great Djenné art. The extreme richness of the harnessing and ornamentation, as well as the presence of an ancient quiver, certainly signify the representation of a sacred Kamara Kagoro founding ancestor (de Grunne, 2005, p. 24). Djenné civilization, Mali Dated AD 1450-1600 (QED 1406 / BA-0407) Smooth ochre-orange terracotta, old dark firing marks, many visible old chips.
