A beautiful old statue depicting a kneeling female figure accompanied by a child. Although classic in all its stylistic characteristics, this work stands out from the corpus for the position of the child perched on his mother's left shoulder. See de Grunne (2014, no. 23) for another figure from the former Philippe Guimiot Collection showing a mother with her child on her shoulders. Djenné civilization, Mali Dating: 1410 - 1510 A.D.
