John Jules NIMMO (Paris, circa 1830 - after 1881)
Young brunette woman standing three-quarter-right, her hair in headbands gathered in a braid, in a white low-cut dress with red braids, black ribbon tied around her neck.
Miniature on ivory circa 1860, signed lower right in red: J. Nimmo
Oval 8x6.2cm, circled in gilded brass, burnished wooden frame (small wetness at bottom; split frame; small scratches on glass), rect. 15.7x13.7cm
Nimmo was a pupil of F. Meuret and exhibited at the Salon au Louvre from 1853 to 1881, working for a time in Great Britain. He painted very finely, and here dares to pose with his mouth slightly ajar, revealing the young woman's perfect teeth.
