An embossed celadon Chinese porcelain potpourri decorated with stylized foliage, the chased and gilded bronze frame with foliage and openwork cartouches, scrolls and clasps; (originally with a lid).
Louis XV period, circa 1750-1755.
H.: 23.5cm, L.: 28cm

Provenance :
Elisabeth, marquise de Montebise (1715-1779) in her hotel on rue de Mézière in Paris, then by descent to the present owner.

The celadon porcelain vases assembled in 18th-century Paris display a wide variety of colors and decorations. The vase in the Montebise collection is a rare example of extremely light celadon porcelain, subtly incised with plant motifs. A fine pair of mounted vases from the former collection of the Vicomtesse de Courval also illustrates the use of this type of porcelain (Sale Paris, Sotheby's, March 25, 2014, Lot 108). As for comparative examples concerning the mounting, it is interesting to cite a pair of vases now preserved at the Musée Cognacq-Jay in Paris (inv. J 275), but even more closely a single vase from the former collection of André Meyer (his sale in New York on October 26, 2001, lot 5). On the question of dating the mounts, as these latter vases are not stamped with the crowned c, it seems reasonable to suggest a date of manufacture around 1750-1755.
