Painted door, Iran, early 20th century Two-panel door in carved wood, painted and gilded on one side. Each leaf is divided into three panels surrounded by floral motifs and painted in the center with a portrait, one of a man smoking a water pipe, the other of a richly adorned woman, both seated on a gold-plated armchair in a landscape planted with palm trees, with birds in flowering branches furnishing the side panels. In the center of the door, five metal nails are riveted to a projecting rod flanked by two chains. Lock on the left leaf.
