Ottoman chest with inlaid decoration, Jerusalem, late 18th - early 19th century Chest with rectangular base resting on four corner feet, closed by a domed lid formerly secured by hinges. Made of wood with inlaid decoration of different woods, black paste and mother-of-pearl plates with engraved and painted black decoration enhanced with red of floral stems. On the lid, a large radiating central roundel with a heart carved with a fabulous creature with a feline body and horned dragon head. On the front, two similar roundels on either side of the lock, one with a heart carved with a floral corolla, the other with an eagle with outstretched wings. On the short sides and back, geometric compositions alternating triangular mother-of-pearl and black paste plates. 21.2 x 36.3 x 20.4 cm Minor damage, restorations, missing key and hinges.
