Hezam wedding belt, Morocco, Fez, early 20th century A long, wide belt woven with polychrome silk threads and decorated in two registers: the upper register with eight mihrab-like niches featuring a poly-lobed arcature flanked by two eight-pointed stars, and the lower register, dominated by orange, decorated with ten meandering squares separated by plant borders. Alternating khamsa motifs and eight-pointed stars on both ends, braided bangs attached to the borders. Back of upper part ilkate. Size without bangs: 250 x 44.5 cm Missing bangs at bottom, faded center band, metal curtain rings attached to back, slight wear.
