*Stéphane MALLARMÉ. Igitur ou la Folie d'Elbehnon. With a wood-engraved portrait by Georges Aubert after the painting by Édouard Manet. Paris, Gallimard, Éditions de la NRF, [July 1] 1925; gr. in-4, br. First edition limited for the large paper to 115 reprinted in quarto tellière format on fine "Lafuma-Navarre" LBN Voiron laid paper, with the NRF watermark, printed in Bruges on the famous Sainte-Catherine press with which Gide had been familiar since 1911. One of 103 reserved for Bibliophiles de la NRF, no. LXIII with Vanderborght's printed name. Frontispiece, the famous small portrait by Manet from 1876 (Musée d'Orsay), which already appeared at the head of Verlaine's Poètes maudits in 1884. Elegant publication with 3 facsimiles by the poet's son-in-law, Dr. Bonniot, who attempted for the first time this perilous edition of the "waste" ("notes squeezed into large wooden Chinese tea boxes", he notes) of the early philosophical tale (1869-1870), at the cost of continuous narrative legibility, as Marchal points out (OC. I p. 1352). One of 850 (of 892 printed on July 10 [the reprint is earlier]) in square in-8 format on "vélin pur-fil Lafuma-Navarre" LBN Voiron, with the NRF watermark, reserved for friends of the original edition, no. I. Uncut copies as issued.
