Maurice DENIS.
La Baigneuse or "Petit air" by MALLARMÉ, December 1894. Proofs of the lithograph published in Maurice Dumont's L'Épreuve Album d'Art, 1st issue [between December 6 and 13] 1894 (for details, see above). 3 proofs.
- Printed on light cream vellum in mauve with the autographed sonnet; cf. Anne Borrel Femmes de Mallarmé. Vulaines-sur-Seine, Musée dép. Stéphane Mallarmé, Liénart (2011) p. 111.
- Print on Chine in mauve before the letter. Upper edge of stone cut by uncm and its right corner missing. Lateral fold.
- Printed on Japan tinted before the letter. Reduced field at top and bottom (1cm less than the stone) and wavy side edges. Nectoux (cf. supra) notes that 15 copies on Japon avant la lettre (framed only) were printed for the deluxe edition. This remains to be proven, given the promising exaggeration of the advertisements (idem).
Missing from the Édouard-Henri Fischer collection, which was intended to be exhaustive.
Provenance: [Mallarmé/Bonniot/Henry Charpentier/Paul Morel]. Paris, Sotheby's, 15/10/2015 n° 231 (pour partie).
