[Méry LAURENT]. Small friendly gifts. Watercolor and autographed book. Louise ABBÉMA. Original signed floral watercolor bearing Méry's calligraphed first name, on cream Whatman (12 x 15.7) mounted on cardboard with rounded corners (a slight angular crease). Possibly a "Mallarméen" New Year's gift in the early 1890s. There's little trace of their relationship, but this fresh watercolor enriches the bouquet of the many artists who surround our arts enthusiast. Auguste DORCHAIN. Conte d'avril. Comedy in four acts in verse. Music by Ch.-M. Widor. Paris, Lemerre, 1885, in-12 bradel green half-percaline, spine titled and decorated with gold flowers, t. gilt (contemporary binding). Letter aut. s. in ink on f.-t.: "Madame Méry Laurent est une exquise amie; cela n'est pas un Conte mais une vérité attestée par son très sincère Auguste Dorchain". [A young Symbolist poet and playwright (1857-1930), this intimate of Méry's remained in the shadows, but Dr. Evans gladly counted him among his guests]. Few books have survived from Méry Laurent's library; a few Huysmans. The latter remains in its modest, charming original condition. Provenance: - Méry Laurent. - Dr E. F. [Docteur Edmond Fournier (1864-1926)], small rectangular etiquette, printed in green on a silver background, bordered by a green fillet, marked 513 in ink. [In his first will, Méry Laurent bequeathed him his house in Les Talus and all his paintings except the Manets. Intimate physician to the "Little Peacock", syphilographer and bibliophile, he lavished advice on Villiers and Mallarmé, who trusted him completely. His impressive library of ancient and modern works was sold with that of his father Alfred Fournier, also Méry's doctor, in 1926 (expert L. Carteret). It contained the manuscript of Contes indiens, which Fournier, together with Méry, helped Mallarmé to rewrite. This manuscript is one of the jewels in the Fischer collection (Galantaris 2014).
