Eugène BOUDIN. L.A.S., Antibes May 7, 1893, to Mme MARTIN; 4pages in-8 in violet ink.About his work in Antibes. He came to the Midi "to restore my broken health under the beneficial warmth of this good sun and this beautiful country. I found real relief from my pains... They didn't give way right away, but by dint of going back and forth - sweating my way up the hills - I eventually forgot about them and regained a little strength in my old legs, which didn't want to go at all. Today things are going well... I've started working with a zeal worthy of a young man... I work my eight hours a day like a simple laborer, but as it's outdoors and by the sea or in the beautiful countryside, I resist this regime that would kill a young man... Happier than our poor late friend, I will have enjoyed my stay in this warm and healthy country. These last few days, I wanted to see Beaulieu again, where he spent his last pleasant days strolling under the olive trees, along paths lined with roses and geraniums [...] Nature is always beautiful, reborn... it grows younger every year... and we... we pass away poor, fragile and short-lived beings. [...] If I weren't forced to return to Paris for all sorts of needs, I think I'd fall asleep here in happy security... but I have a ball and chain... it's the workshop and the thousand torments of the trade [...] like the Wandering Jew, I'm condemned to walk, to run the shores, the ports without respite... I'm overwhelmed with orders and work"...
