Eugène BOUDIN.
L.A.S., Villefranche March 24, 1892, to Ferdinand MARTIN; 3pages in-8 in purple ink.
Stay in Villefranche-sur-Mer.
He encourages his friend to come to Villefranche: "A warm mild temperature, a real bliss under the good sun. You can walk under the olive trees, along this blue sea as if in a delicious garden. [...] I enjoy it in my own way, by painting and wood-burning, but that doesn't stop me from envying the fate of those who stroll around with umbrella in hand and let themselves live, inhaling this good, tepid air that bears no resemblance to that of our climate. [...] We're leaving the Villa Bleue on Sunday, much to everyone's regret, because for me especially, I'd love to stay for another month, painting and running all day long through the trees and powdery roads". He will leave for Paris on Sunday...
Another L.A.S. is attached, [late March or early April 1892] (4p. in-12). He will come to see his friend at the Hotel Terminus: "Together we will draw up the program for your trip and give you the most extensive and clearest explanations both of the journey and of the choice of your stay there and the means of settling in - all explanations that can only be given by word of mouth. I'm sorry I wasn't clear about your definite desire to replace us in our warm bed at the Villa Bleue, but we didn't dare come forward with the master of the house in the uncertainty we were in. [...] Another regret is not being able to give you an idea of the country based on my studies. - But you'll be surprised there"...
