I don't have much spare time, because since the second day I've been working and I don't want to lose a session... especially since the fleet is nearby, in the bay, and I want to take advantage of it. [...] What can I tell you about the country? I'll need pages and pages... Beneath our windows is a marvellous garden, all green and leafy, orange trees covered with golden apples... flowers, flowers [...] The mountain stretches out behind me, covered with olive trees and marvellous... in front of the azure sea. Yesterday I worked under my parassol all day [...] no wind... sweet air and delicious well-being"... He visited Nice: "we heard the concert with our parasol as one would on the beach of Trouville in August... To tell you how crowded the promenade is... and to add that the sea bath is in full operation and that we are immersed in the Mediterranean in this month of February"... He is "in a delightful villa that looks out over the sea and backs onto the mountain - we're in paradise here, and for such a sweet price!"...
