Eugène BOUDIN.
L.A.S., Deauville August 27, 1891, to Ferdinand MARTIN; 3pages in-8 in blue ink.
On his work in Deauville.
"You had well thought that we were no longer rolling the northern countries. We had to take a break because of the bad weather, and even more because of my health, for I have been so chilled and stale that my neuralgia has returned and is still with me. What's more, this long series of cold and rainy days has given me rheumatism, which is causing me a great deal of pain... It's already been a few weeks since we returned to Deauville, where the weather continues to ruin us, adding to our pain. It's a year lost for work, as I was barely able to save a few hours here and there on our trip north". He postpones his trip to Le Havre: "the sky is so sad, the wind always so annoying, that I prefer to wait for a little serious sunshine. Whether it will come is doubtful... and I despair"...
He talks about the Roederer sale and their friend Van der Velde...
"I'd like to glean a little from Le Havre, Fécamp and Étretat, if my health permits and if the weather becomes a little milder towards the end of September... I've done very little this summer... Especially for a clientele that increases every year and that I see myself in little condition to satisfy... I feel that I am getting old and that I no longer have the strength and courage of the years gone by"...
Another L.A.S. is enclosed, October 9, 1891 (1p. in-8). He charges Martin with a letter: "It is in order to prevent the arrival in Deauville of this fanatic amateur, to whom I do not wish to allow my studies to be peeled, that I announce my stay in Le Havre"... But he is "homey, lazy and difficult to lift... I don't like travelling anymore, at all"...
