Noviadi ANGKASAPURA [Papua New Guinean] (b. 1979) Jujur Sabar Colored ballpoint pen on paper. Signed lower left. Titled on the right edge. 40 x 30 cm Provenance : Collection Jean-Jacques Plaisance, Galerie Les Yeux Fertiles, Paris. Noviadi Angkasapura (b. 1979, West New Guinea) began drawing at the age of 22 after a spiritual experience: he claims to have been visited by a spirit who conveyed a message containing notions of "patience" and "peace", and urged him to start drawing. For him, drawing becomes a sacred act, somewhere between prayer and meditation, through which he transmits messages. His works, populated by fantastical, hybrid creatures, are freely inspired by Asian iconographic traditions, while retaining a strong sense of originality. Working with modest means on small formats, he now lives in Jakarta and is represented by several galleries. His works can be found in the Collection de l'Art Brut in Lausanne.
