Platinum ring housing a watch, oval dial, mechanical movement, paved with round old-cut diamonds. Work of the 1930's. Finger size: 47. Set dimensions: approx. 2x1.3cm. Gross weight: 10.4g (function not guaranteed)
A 1930 clock diamond ring

Since Antiquity, rings have been used to hold a wide range of accessories: compartments for poison or perfumed ointment, receptacles for the memory of a loved one are all attested in Western Europe. The advantage of these accessory jewels is that they are very discreet and... handy! Time measurement adapted to this format was a subject of research for ring manufacturers as early as the Renaissance. The first success is attested by the famous Aubert, jeweler to King Louis XV, whose archives (1774) state that he sold the Marquis de Vernouillet "a ring-watch with diamonds and a button". This vogue seems to have waned with the advent of watches suspended from a chain in the 19th century. Diana Scarisbrick, Rings, London 2007, p. 339-340
