Silver ribbon pendant brooch set with rose-cut diamonds, holding three drops set with rose-cut diamonds. Late 17th-early 18th century. Height: approx. 5cm. Gross weight: 20.9g (chips)
A late 17th early - 18th century diamond brooch

The name Gilles Légaré (1610-1685), "Goldsmith to the King", is associated with a series of 12 jewelry designs that were distributed throughout Europe in the mid-17th and early 18th centuries. While the drawings are well known, the jewels directly inspired by them are much less so, with a few rare examples appearing on the art market at various sales. We are therefore in the presence of one of these extremely rare pieces of jewelry, probably made in the 18th century. Légaré's designs served as a model to follow, spreading a fashion that can be traced from Portugal to Flanders, via France, with local specificities.
