Maximilien Luce (1858-1941)
Camaret. 1895. Lithograph. 393 x 252. I.F.F. 15. Color print. A very fine, fresh proof on chine pastedown on heavy cream vellum, signed in green pencil by the artist, numbered, initialed in pen and ink and stamped by the publisher (Lugt 1194 and 1190) in the lower right corner. Traces of folds along right edge. Full margins. Edition of approx. 60 proofs.

"Brittany was to be a favorite destination for Luce: "My dear Signac, I've been back from Camaret for two weeks. I would have liked to see Brittany with bad weather, it seems to me that it must have much more character. I didn't bring back much, just a few studies and notes that I hope to put to good use, you'll see when you get back." [Letter to Paul Signac, summer 1893]. Nevertheless, thanks to these "notes", he produced some extremely accomplished canvases, which are among his finest achievements." (J.-M. David, "Maximilien Luce et les voyages, in J. Paquet and A. Legé, eds. Legé, eds, Maximilien Luce, l'instinct du paysage, exhibition catalogue, Paris, Musée de Montmartre, 2025, pp. 58-59).
