Rodolphe Bresdin (1822-1875) The Good Samaritan. 1861. Lithograph. 442 x 565. Van Gelder 100. 1867 proof from the mother stone, on double chine appliqué, with Lemercier's address in the center, with the small chip in the stone (improperly referred to as a "bird", appearing from the 2nd print of 1867), carefully washed, the two chines however repositioned with a slight offset, especially visible at the upper edge. Fine creases, accidents and tears still perceptible, particularly at the edges of the folio. Full margins. Artist's stamp in the center under the printer's address (Lugt 295b, a mark that "is generally found on fine quality proofs and appears to predate the dry stamp that was affixed by the master's heirs").
