Robert Bonfils (1886-1972)
Paris 1925 / Exposition interna-tionale des arts décoratifs et industriels modernes. 1925. Litho-graphy. [392 x 592]. I.F.F. 43. Color print. Very fine proof on ivory vellum, doubled on strong white vellum and canvas-backed.

Emblematic poster for the 1925 exhibition: "... long-awaited since it had already been planned before the First World War, in an effort to break with Art Nouveau - [it] consecrates the Art Deco style, with its clean lines, its use of geometry and symmetry, and its use of luxurious, refined materials. [...] The 1925 International Exhibition was not just a consecration of Art Deco: it was also a turning point for certain artists who, although present, sought to emancipate themselves from the Société des artistes décorateurs. Shortly afterwards, they founded the Union des artistes modernes. ("L'Exposition internationale des arts décoratifs et industriels modernes de 1925", madparis.fr).
