SACHER-MASOCH, Jewish Tales. Paris, Quentin, 1888. In-folio, handsome modern half-leather binding with corners. Twenty-eight out-of-text photogravures (actually 54, only 27 having been printed, but each found here in two copies), one hundred drawings in the text by Gérardin, Alphonse Lévy, Émile Lévy, Henry Lévy, Edward Loewy, Schlesinger, Vogel, Worms. A very fine, perfectly established copy, one of 125 on japon, the only first edition, with hors texte in two states, one before the letter. Best known for his novel The Furry Venus, Sacher-Masoch was a philosemite who wrote his Jewish Tales as an apology for Jewish communities around the world.
