PRAYER - MINIATURE] Extremely rare prayer ritual. Paris, Zelig Auerbach, 1848. In-32, full chagrin binding. Endpapers and title reinforced with tape, otherwise fine condition. This extremely rare prayer ritual does not appear in any catalog that has been consulted. It is therefore a bibliographic rediscovery. The only place it is attested is in vol. 37 of Bibliographie de la France, paragraph 721, where it is described as follows: "Rituel de prières in-32 de 7 feuilles. Imprimerie de Pollet à Paris - À Paris, chez Auerbach, rue Saint-Denis, 331. New edition of a prayer book in Hebrew published in small format, intended to serve as a model for some of the typefaces with which the publisher is provided". Zelig Auerbach is listed in the dictionary of lithographic printers as active from 1846 to 1858 at several addresses, including 331 rue Saint-Denis. Born in Strasbourg to a bookbinder father, he became an engraver. In 1844, he obtained authorization to own a lithographic press and a letterpress. He mainly wanted to produce gold and colored labels for confectioners and ointment merchants, as well as posters and book covers. He also uses the services of Pollet, with whom he seems to be associated. This prayer ritual is therefore one of the few, if not the only, book to have come out of Zelig Auerbach's hands.
