PRAYER] [Samuel David LUZZATTO] Ritual of prayers according to the usage of Italian communities in 2 volumes. Livorno, printed by Shlomo Belaforte et Associés, 1856.
2 volumes in-4, bound in leather embossed with a decoration of fillets, roulettes and initials, and in the center a cold-stamped decoration. Introduction to this ritual by the renowned scholar Samuel David Luzzatto. Ex-libris Amadio Momigliano, brother of the rabbi of Bologna and friend of Benamozegh, and Ricardo Momigliano, Italian deputy and senator.
At the beginning of the first volume, a handwritten page in French highlights a quotation from Wogue, who endeavors to explain why women are exempt from daily prayers. On the last page of this first volume, a handwritten page gives in Hebrew the blessing for the community after the reading of the Torah and a text for the naming of a daughter. At the end of the second volume, a handwritten Hebrew text in beautiful square script offers a prayer for the officiant on the evening of Kippur before the start of the prayers. This text, which is usually recited only in Yemen, was obviously added to this Italian prayer book.
Beautiful binding despite a few imperfections, thick paper.
