SYNAGOGICAL MUSIC] GERSON-LÉVY, Organ and Pioutim. An appeal to common sense on these two questions: is the organ anti-religious? Does the rhymed prose of the Middle Ages have a stable character in the French Synagogue? New, corrected and expanded edition. Paris, Archives Israélites, Metz, Alcan. In-8, period half-bassane binding (paper missing from one flyleaf, without the false title page, otherwise a good copy). Collection of articles previously published in Archives Israélites, following the Paris rabbinical conference of May 1856. In the 19th century, the introduction of the organ in synagogues triggered a major controversy between reformers and conservatives.
